We had a couple of days to spend before the Ulysses club AGM started, so we thought a trip to France would be nice. Not far from Sippersfeld was Verdun, that seemed to be a nice enough destination. So in the morning we slowly packed up the tent, had a swim and some coffee and cake, than started in the afternoon direction Verdun. The weather was quite warm and we arrived in France without traffic jams.

After the border we realised that our GPS had only the German map and was now showing us the coarse world map, which was not useful at all. We had a real problem to find the accommodation. At the end we used the mobile phone. When we finally arrived, we noticed as well, that our French is not really up to scratch. Our host didn’t speak English but admitted eventually to speak a little bit German, so we reverted back to Google translate. That seemed to work, a bit slow, but better than nothing. We found out that our host offered to drive us to the city, so we could have something to eat without jumping back into our motorcycle gear. With the high temperatures at night, we happily accepted. We walked around a bit, picked a restaurant and had a nice dinner. What a lovely day. Our host was so kind to pick us up again.

The next day we explored Verdun; there were plenty of places to visit. We started to stroll through Verdun and found the Porte Chaussee, huge entrance to Verdun. Later we found out, that this was not the main gate; this was another gate close by.

From here we went to the impressive ‘Monument to the victory at Verdun’. It contains a crypt which was used to hold books with the names of those French and American soldiers who fought in this region. There are many steps J. Inside was a small exhibition, some of the German propaganda material.

From the crypt was it a short stroll to the ‘Cathedrale Nore Dame de Verdun’. This cathedral looked impressive, especially when you saw how damaged it was at the end of 1918.

From here we walked to the Museum for Peace where we went through an exhibition about the First World War. It did show not only the live at the front, it showed as well the impact on the civil population. We were happy that we never had to live through something like that.

From here we went back to the Meuse and found some sort of water feature, which looked nice.

The next day we planned to have a look around the city, but our host told us (via Google translate), that it would be interesting to have a look at the ‘Citadel’

Next day visit the Citadel, there was not much to see from the outside and I forgot to take pictures inside.

The next stop was Fort Vaux and Fort Douaumont, both Forts were built to defend Verdun. It was incredible to see how people have lived during the war and which technology exists at this time. Below are some pictures from both forts:

Back side of ‘Fort de Faux’

Connection tunnel in the Fort. It felt we and cool.

Some bombs, I tried to lift on, they were really heavy.

Sleeping quarters

Toilets, well one, the rest was removed since it didn’t work during the siege.

The washing quarters: The stalactites are a new featureJ. It shows how moist it was.

And the turret tower from the inside and outside. One was still functioning and could be lifted and retracted.

After all day sightseeing, we went back to Verdun for some nice treats and to walk through the city gates.

That was our time in France. Tomorrow we’ll travel back in Germany. On our way we will have a look at Hackenberg, a Fort build from France in the 1920th.

In the morning we went swimming with Gabi and had breakfast at the pool. The weather was just great. We went home, packed up and left, with a shot detour to Klaus & Conni. We left on Friday the luggage there since we had to change the tires. At Klaus we packed the rest and we are ready to go.

We had only one traffic jam, it was reasonable hot, but it took no more than 20 minutes. We arrived in Jena without any problem. We even found out how to refill my scot oiler J. As I have learned, it is not a good idea to try to fill it up using the breathing hose J. We had a nice dinner and went to bed.
Talking to the waiter, it would be worthwhile to have a look at the tower, so we did.

To our surprise, the tower is called the ‘Intershop Tower’.

From the top of the tower you got a good view over Jena. We had some lunch and stumbled across the ‘Cosmorama’, the unit used in the ‘Zeiss Planetarium Jena’ until it was dismantled in 1996. After lunch we started to get to Sippersfeld.

We arrived after a reasonable long day and Sigrid was happy to relax. The setup was just beautiful.

We setup the tent from Steffi and Julia. It was similar to our tent and went up in no time.

We met as well Sebastian and Sonja, the couple that sold us Sigrid’s bike. They had been travelling to Ushuaia as well, so we had lots of stories to share.

At night I noticed that my air mattress was leaking, so the next morning I decided to have a look at it, Sebastian came along to help. Putting the air mattress into the lake did show the problem quickly. We applied a patch and let it dry. Then we went for a beautiful ride. In the evening we listen to multiple presenters talking about their experience during their journey. Some have travelled through Africa, others around the world. Some were very well prepared, others made it up as they went.

The next day we stayed at the campground and talked to some people. There were as well two interesting stalls, one was about travelling China, which might become handy on our next trip. The other was a guy who modified a motorcycle to travel from Alaska to the South Pole.

He is still in the process of modifying the bike

Previously he travelled around the world using his modified ‘Fireblade’.

We enjoyed the three days there; the time was over too quickly. After this weekend we are even keener to start our next long overland trip. On Sunday we said good bye to people we met.

We stayed for another day, just relaxing and having a swim in the pond.

Our next stop is Verdun in France.

Today is the day… I have to go to the migration department (Auslaenderbehorde) and try to get my six month visa. We organized all requested papers and went to the office. As it turned out, we had all papers. Klaus brought the proof that he is owning the property were we are registered, I brought proof that I’m married to Sigrid and some Bank statement and not even after 3 hours and 180AU$ later, I got the permission to stay for 6 Month in Europa. Success! Then we rushed home and off we went to visit Freya. She organized a cabaret evening in the ‚Bar jeder Vernunft’. The vicinity is an old mirror tent, and it looks like it is from the 1930th. We were sitting right up front close to the singer, she had a great voice. The evening was entertaining and on the way home, we stopped at a Döner shop and had some Curry Wurst and Döner.

The next day we were invited to Carsten’s Birthday party which c-conveniently for us was at their new house. It was really impressive what Carsten and Gabi did with the old house. There were hardly any original walls left. The whole house was opened up. The most impressive part for me was how they converted the cellar into a marvellous bedroom. Ahh, and they had a sheep in the garden, with a crownJ.

The next day we finished the bikes and Klaus was test riding the ‘BumbleBee’ J. All appears to be in order. In the evening we went to went to Christina for dinner. It was a nice relaxed evening and Niklas played some piano tunes for us. In fact it was so relaxed that I forgot to take pictures….

Next day we moved back to Bodo and Gabi for Gabi’s 60st Birthday. We’d organized some tickets for ‘The One’ a show in the Friedrich Stadt Palast as a surprise for her that worked great!

. The costumes, the music the light effects, the acrobatics and the stage were fantastic! But, as always in these shows we were only allowed to take pictures at the end of the show.

At night we celebrated Gabi’s birthday at 24:00. Well, I opened a bottle of Champaign, unfortunately the Champaign started its escape and it sprayed all over the room, Bodo and me. So the celebration was delayed until the mess was cleaned up. ‘Luckily’ there are no pictures J

The next day we strolled through the city before we were going to a Chinese restaurant which had a buffet too large for us to try everything. However we gave it a good shot J.

Back to Klaus and Connies, to organize some birthday gifts for Sigrid, we went pre-birthday shopping. The weather was nice so Klaus and Connie decided to join on the Yamaha. The bike must be around 35 years old and still looks amazing.

We drove to a BMW, where I had pre-ordered some new riding trousers for Sigrid. Connie and Klaus heard that Sigrid’s rain pants were leaking, so they organized some new rain pants for her.

Today is Sigrid’s Birthday. I was busy organising things and preparing the bikes so I had no time to organize something for Sigrid (lame excuseJ. but Connie organized and decorated a great birthday table for Siggi.

Connie had a great suggestion for Sigrid’s birthday breakfast, the ‘Kings Garden academy’. Here we meet with Freya, Gabi, Robert, Klaus and Conni. It was a very tranquil breakfast.

After the breakfast, we said good bye to our friends and went with Klaus and Connie for a walk to Moorlake. The intention was to visit the ‘Pfaueninsel’, a small island nearby. When we arrived at the ferry- guess what-the ferry was out of order for maintenance, just today… So we walked back and had another go at the ‘Koeniglichen Gartenakademie’ for coffee and cake. At night we celebrated with a glass of Champaign at Klaus and Connie’s balcony.

Next day was Gabi’s birthday, but she had to work, so we decided to meet at night at a restaurant with a beautiful view. Unfortunately our tires arrived and we had to get them changed today, at least on one bike. So in a rush we went to the tire shop, got the tyres on the yellow bike (BumbleBee) fitted and rushed to Gabi house. Well, rushing was relative, since we hit the rush hour. Stop and go for nearly two hours. Needless to say, we arrived late and Gabi’s father was patiently waiting for us. We hopped in his car and arrived just an hour later L. The view and the food were fantastic; from the portion size I would guess it was a French chef J

Gabi organized for the next day a beauty treatment for Sigrid as a birthday gift. So we split up, I went back to the tyre shop to get the rear tyre on the red bike changed. During this time, Sigrid went to the beauty treatment. We meet around 6PM close to Kudamm. I was surprised, when a foreign women approached me. Well it took a while before I realised that it was Sigrid J

And for Saturday, we planned to go with Gabi to some nurseries to buy some plants/trees. At the end Gabi found some rhododendron and blue berries, they get delivered mid next week. In the evening Gabi organized a gathering at Mathias rowing club.

The adventure was not finished jet, Gabi organized as well a boat trip at Linum. Germany has many channels which are connected to a huge network. In Linum is the Amtmann channel which is part of the network. Around the channel is a wild life reserve, where birds rest during their winter migration. The boat had an electric motor, so we had during the whole trip no engine noise.

During the trip we got hungry, so we had a nice lunch in the restaurant nearby, had a look at a goat cheese and went to a milk refill station. I thought that is a great invention. The refill station is on the farmer’s property, and you refill your own bottles.

In the evening Gabi arranged a meeting with Heidi Hetzer. We met Heidi in Australia when she was doing her world trip with Hudo, a 1930 Hudson car. She stayed with us for a couple of days before she continued her journey to Melbourne. We meet at a restaurant called ‘Kaptain’s Kajüe’, it was a picturesque setup at a nice lake (Wannsee). Heidi arrived with her red Opel GT, nice car. This was the last day of partying, well at least in Berlin J

The service on the yellow bike wasn’t done, so we decided to do the usual – change oil and spark plugs and get new brake pads -our self’s. Changing the spark plugs required a bit more work than expected. It looked like we had to dismantle half of the bike J

In the next couple of days we organized the bike insurance, the registration and organized a visa for myself, since we would like to stay for more than 3 Month in Europa. Now we are officially residing at Connie’s and Klaus’s house. To get mail in Germany to that address our name had to be put onto the letterbox; otherwise the mail would be returned to sender.

Klaus and I successfully entertained the girls, since doing all the paperwork is so boring.

To get the bikes complete, we needed some additional parts, which we ordered in the meantime. That included a larger windscreen, bash plate, luggage rack and a top box. All that got delivered and fitted to the bikes.

We needed as well a tent, since we left ours in Australia due to weight restriction on the flight. We talked to Steffi and Julia at Anita’s weddings anniversary and they mentioned they had a spare one. They were even so nice to bring it to Klaus’s house. They had the tent spare after they bought a VW bus.

After a nice stroll through the city with Bodo, Gabi and Linda, we got picked up by Conni und Klaus. We made a detour to Polo to buy Chain Oil. On this occasion I remembered that I left my raingear in Australia-it was leaking anyway after a while. So we had a look and found something really nice and inconspicuous. Siggi tried the jacket as well

We had a nice evening at Klaus and Connie’s Place, with lots of talking and planning. The next day we started our trip to collect the bikes. First Klaus drove us to our first destination, Gottmadingen, close to the Bodensee. It was raining heavily during our drive; I was hoping that the weather will clear up the next day.

In the evening we arrive at Sonja’s and Sebastian’s house, I took the bike for a short spin.

Then we finalised the paper work and I could drive our first bike to the accommodation. This was a great feeling! After month of planning things started to fall in place.

Next day we were aiming for Aachen to pick up my bike. The weather hadn’t cleared up jet, so I had the opportunity to test my new raingear. We made a small detour to Doris for a coffee and picked up our gear we left there. We arrived later this evening, but I was so excited that I forgot to take any pictures.

We booked some accommodation close by. The hotel had a garage were we could park the bikes; unfortunately Klaus had to park the car in the street. For dinner we organised some pizza that night and went to bed.

The next day we aimed to get back to Berlin. First we tried to get some bike insurance, but that did’t work. We were told to get the insurance in Berlin. Below are our two beauties

J

So we hopped onto the bikes and off we went. The weather cleared up and we arrived in Berlin close to midnight, completely buggered but happy.

No, I’m not talking about the Australian political party. We were meeting with Sigrid family before we would start to organize the bikes and me my Visa. We used the ICE to get to Berlin. Bodo and Gabi were so nice to pick us up from ‘Ostbahnhof’. On the next day we had a short walk around inner Berlin, trying to get a Currywurst from a famous stall. We forgot that it was Sunday. We kept walking and stumbled across a Beer garden with some stalls.

We had something to eat

and Sigrid gave “Moonshine” a local liquor a go.

We went back to Bodo and Gabi’s flat and checked out possibilities to get to Anita’s and Bernd’s celebration. The location was on the fringe of Berlin, but the public transport is great. So after looking at an public transport app and getting some instructions from Bodo, we were ready to go. Bodo showed us to the train station and we took a picture of the station, so we would know on our way back where to exit the train. So off we went, had a beautiful tour through the outskirts of Berlin. .

Anita and Bernd celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary and invited us last year. When our trip/retirement started to get closer, we thought we would like to attend and celebrate with them together. The location was at the ‘Rübezahl’, a location on Müggelsee, a big lake.

The setup was fantastic.

Anita and Bernd spend a lot of attention to details. On each of our place setting we found small chocolate hart with ‘Liebe ist’ sayings, which we remembered from our youth.

Couples married more than 20 years even got an porcelain angel which was very cuteJ.

We really enjoyed to catch up with our family and appreciated the warm hospitality and the generous setup of the celebration.

As a side note –Sigrid and I tried the whole day to get a currywurst, without success. As we learned now, there is a ‘Midnight Currywurst’ custom at parties in Berlin, that mean that at midnight a currywurst was severed. As you can see, we really enjoyed it. At the end of the night we were ready to take the public transport back, but Dagmar convinced us that it would be better that she would drive us back to Bodo, which she did.

The next day we visited Gabi’s and Bodo’s Garden where lots of flowers were blooming. It was a beautiful day, but it got cold very early, so we packed up and went back to Gaby and Bobo’s flat.

where we warmed up by coffee and cake.

On the last Day, we had still a long task list to finish. Below are some pictures how I felt with the number of tasks and the time remaining.

We packed our luggage and put it on a scale. Hmm, no  way that we can take all our stuff with only 30kg luggage  per person. At the end, we sacrificed our tent, repacking  everything, back, forward, back again until we just made it  with 30kg luggage person plus 7Kg hand luggage. Not  sure how we can carry that, don’t worry, we will be fine.

And here an attempt to carry most of the luggage.

We finished just in time when  the family came to pick us up.  Together we had a fare well  snack with the family at the  airport,

And off we went, Europa we are coming. The first leg  was to Doha, where we were lucky enough that each of  us would get a 3 seat row, so we could have a good night  sleep. The layover was without any problems and we  arrived in Frankfurt the next morning.

Now we had to carry that entire luggage to/from the train which was a harder than we thought.

Doris has organized some  dinner with friends where we  tried  some specialties of the  regions.
On the next day we had a very  relaxing breakfast , visited  Dieters grave (Sigrids Dad) and  went with Doris and Helga to a    restaurant that served freshly  harvested ‘Asparagus ‘.

Next day we packed up and left for Berlin. This time we left some luggage at Doris’s place; the plan was we would pick it up later when we pass by her house while picking up the bikes.

Ok, here is a short update. Since we returned from our previous trip four years ago, Sigrid was bugging me that we should start traveling again. It seemed to be impossible before 2021. But talking to our financial advisor it was possible to start traveling in the not to distance future, actually now J

So Sigrid retired on the 10th February and I did it end of March. Here are the pictures of last days before my retirement.

Six Five Four

Three Two One and………..

Zero, already slacking off.

And now I’m retired J. Easy isn’t it. After we are both retired, we had a couple of days of planning and some days of frantic action, several fare well parties and now we are ready to leave for our next adventure, Iceland and Scandinavia.

Ok when Bjoern posted his account of what had happened I realised that it played out a bit different for me.

We were traveling from San Francisco to Twain Harte. We had been on the road for a few hours already and the traffic was very slow. This was due to the fact that we asked the GPS to avoid Highways. So in the end we changed these settings and set off again after a coffee stop.
Finally some open road! And an overtaking lane! 😀

So off we went, overtaking a big white SUV. After overtaking Bjoern moved back into the right hand lane. There it looked like he wanted to joke around as he appeared to move the bike from side to side. I realised that it was no joke as the movements increased and then he went down. .. My heart stopped. I saw him coming off and rolling to one side, I can’t recall what the bike did. I stopped and ‘parked’ the bike on the yellow lines separating the oncoming lane. Then I ran back shouting “oh no oh no” or something similar into my helmet. Huffing and puffing, because it was on a slight hill I finally reached him. I was soooo relieved when I found him there, lying on his back but fully responsive. Two men were around him and talking to him . They appeared to know exactly what to do. And they assured me that an Ambulance had been already called. One of them proceeded expertly to remove the helmet and a cushion appeared from nowhere to be put under Bjorn’s head.

So, looking him over it appeared that he was ok, just the hand did look a bit mangled. Everyone insisted that Bjoern lay still until the Ambulance came. I went back and parked my bike a bit better on the side of the road. Police arrived earlier than the ambulance and asked me for papers, most of them I could provide them with. They asked me what had happened and I told them as best I could. I suspected that something went wrong with the tire we had replaced this morning. They went over to the bike and put it upright, but could not find anything wrong with the tire. They arranged for a tow truck to be called. Then the ambulance arrived, they cut open Bjoern’s shirt and trousers to check if there were any other injuries.  Meanwhile, he had the nerve to complain about his shirt!
Luckily they did not find anymore, phew…. They proceeded to put Bjoern on a board and transport him to the Ambulance vehicle. There they measured his Blood pressure and were about to call a helicopter to transport him the hospital because it was so low. I told them that this is quite normal for Bjoern when he is under stress or in pain. They measured again and it had got a little better. So now they wanted to bring him to the hospital, but could not take me with them.

I had to wait for the tow truck. In that time I rearranged our boxes so that I would have the clothes and papers with me. But all the camping gear and the tools would remain with the bike on the tow truck. Putting the bike on the truck proved a strenuous task for the two policemen who had to hold it for quite some time before the truck driver had it secured. The tow truck driver gave me a card with the details where I could get access to the bike over the coming weekend and drove off. The policeman helped me with my bike – I had parked it in an unfortunate spot where I could not get it lifted up again – and then drove in front of me to lead me to the hospital. In the hospital the paperwork started again and then I could finally see Bjoern.

The news was that everything was ok, but his left wrist was badly broken. Unfortunately they did not have an orthopaedic surgeon in this hospital but they would transport Bjoern to the hospital in Modesto. We waited for a couple of hours then Bjoern was transported by ambulance to the other hospital. The Paramedic assured me that she would drive slowly and I could follow them on the bike. That was a bit scary because by now it was dark outside. Off we went and reached the other hospital without incident after approx. 20 min.

More paperwork, then a doctor looked Bjoern and his x-rays over. Then the paramedic appeared again and brought my keys which I had lost on the car park at the other hospital. People are just great 😀

The doctor then told us that the orthopaedic surgeon had gone home for the night. Bummer… So they would do a reduction by which they move the bones to their original location without operating on it. They proceeded to give Bjoern some narcotics which did not have the desired effect for a while. Bjoern would count to them in English and Spanish just to make sure that they don’t start too earlyJ. Finally he was out. The medicos pulled and pushed while Bjoern politely asked them to refrain from poking him… Even though he was out cold 😀
When they were finished they did another x-ray and told me that it was limited success only, but they put his arm in a splint. They wanted to send us home under the proviso that we would be there for an appointment on Monday morning. Oh, good news, but it is 1:30 at night…where do we get accommodation? A social worker from the hospital arranged accommodation for us at the Ramada Inn in Modesto and a taxi fare for Bjoern. So I donned all my motorbike equipment again and followed the taxi to the hotel. There we settled into a nice room, and I went off again to find a 24h pharmacy, unsuccessful… It was now 3:30 and I hoped that Bjoern’s painkillers would hopefully last until the morning.

Everything looks better in daylight, Bjoern is still here, with what we really have to call minor damage. We both went for breakfast, then off I went to the pharmacy nearby as Bjoern and I slept for a while 🙂

Day: 38
Date: 09/05
City: Dumas, Texas
Miles ridden: 164
Cumulative miles: 2998

As per yesterday we changed our plan slightly and we’ll spend the morning in the Route 66 museum. There were some old restored cars or in some cases only parts of them:

Sigrid couldn’t resist sliding down the fire pole 🙂

And a nice rebuild of a shop fronts as seen in earlier times on Route 66.

Outside was the old train station from Elk City and some additional displays showing how people lived and worked in the earlier days.  Of course the Diddles had a look as well.

There was also a short movie about the history of transport methods in the USA and Route 66. It was a 15 minutes film clip. They didn’t serve any popcorn or drinks during the movie,so Val nearly fell asleep and she went out into the sun.

.

A picture in front of the museum (can you find the Diddles)?

This time we stopped early enough to take a picture of the State sign. Up to now we always realized it too late when we passed a state border and in most places there was no space to easily pull up with 4 bikes. Well, in Texas everything’s just a bit bigger, even the side lane on the highway.

We stopped early in the afternoon and filled our bikes up at a petrol station in Dumas. We started to talk with the guy at the petrol station about our bikes, our trip and our visit to the Route 66 Museum. He ask us if we would like to have a look at an old restored Ford that was in for maintenance in his garage. We enthusiastically said yes and so he showed us the beautiful restored Ford.

He mentioned that he was drag racing and he couldn’t resist to show us his baby. Wow! Not much room for a pillion and it’s got a parachute in the back!

Stopping a bit earlier, we had a look at hotels close by and selected a very basic one. We had it tough today 😉

Day: 39
Date: 10/05
City: Eagle Nest, New Mexico
Miles ridden: 228
Cumulative miles: 3226

Today we started a bit later, since we had to call Garmin to let them know that the new device played up again and Sigrid had to send an email to Charline and John (the couple that runs the IronHorse campground) so they could send the hat to the Flagstaff post office. It was very windy during the first bit of the trip, and Sigrid liked to keep the speed around 60mph. After 20 miles or so, Wombat got in front and increased that to around 70mph. The road was 2 lanes and Sigrid was happy to increase her speed to 70mph as well. So we kept it up for the rest of the day. The landscape was a bit monotoneous, but after 2 hours of riding we came to the beginning of the Rocky Mountain. The view was fantastic.

We travelled to Eagle Nest, which is a township at high altitude on a lake. The township is part of a scenic road (80 miles) that is called the Enchanted Circle. When we arrived we found accommodation (EconoLodge) with a view over the lake and the mountain. The scenery and the weather reminded me a lot of Austria.

So we walked to the centre of the town to get something to eat. On the way we found a wooden sculpture representing 2 bears. At our hotel we found proof that bears are in the area.

The season in this area hasn’t started jet, so most of the shops and all restaurants were still closed.

All of them? No, not all. A Pizzeria in a small township up in the hills was open.

(a small nod to all of you folks who’ve read Asterix & Obelix 😉 ).

The lady who runs the shop was wearing an oxygen mask, so we were a bit concerned about the OHS, oxygen bottle plus hot pizza oven. She told us that it might take 30 minutes or so. We went through the town and found an original Saloon that, surprisingly,  was open.  So that was the place of choice when waiting for Pizza to be finished.

The entry looked great:

And so did the entire area

Since we enjoyed the atmospere (and the beer) so much, we ask the bar tender if we could have the Pizza in his shop, and he was happy with that.

After the meal Wombat and I had a game of ‘Shuffle Board’, which was explainded to us by a local. Well, after a good start, Wombat thrashed me.

Day: 40
Date: 11/05
City: Mancos, Colorado
Miles ridden: 295
Cumulative miles: 3521

It was cold in the morning, so we delayed the start a bit and Sigrid and I put our heated vests on. We started to ride the enchanted drive, the first bit was nice scenery but the view around Taos was not as exciting any more. After Taos, we were passing a bridge and when we came closer we noticed that there was a huge canyon.

We found out that we just crossed the Rio Grande.

After taking some pictures we started to head towards some ominous black clouds. It was not too bad, we had to put our rain gear on and the rain was not too heavy. Coming out of the plains, we started to climbed over a pass that was 10,500 feet (3048m), and there was still snow on the side. Since we all got a bit cold, we decided to stop and to put our heated liners and gloves on. It was toasty warm. Sigrid couldn’t resist and threw some snow at us. We had a short look at hotels from a McDonalds and we found a nice hotel that was not too expensive. The motel was nice and the restaurant was just on the side, so we didn’t have to drive for dinner.
